I really enjoy using the NIV Study Bible. I've used it for about 10 years now. It has a wealth of info. ( In my mind, though, I translate everything to King James). :)

What about you?

Aunt Bee,
I like the open bible study edition with the encyolepic index. The present one i am using is the nkjv. Of course the very best is the one that is read by it's owner.

I have the NAS Open Study bible and love it. I use it in conjunction with the CJB (Complete Jewish Bible.)

I use the NIV, although I don't like the fact that it translates sarx as "sinful nature" instead of "flesh."

If the NIV did this consistently (which it doesn't), John 1:14 would read, "And the word became sinful nature."

Barbara,
I like the NAS ALSO. My very first bible the Lord led me to because I told Him I could not get through all the begats of the KJV was the RSV. I studied the covers off of it.

Mark,
I had trouble with the NIV when I was leading a bible study. Acts 9:5 does not read the same as the KJV/NKJV. i found out why when I read the preface of the NIV. They use a different version/copy of the Greek text. I am sort of lax on going to my greek and hebrews dictionaries. Do you use any bible software? I use quckverse 7.0.

The difference between KJV and NIV in Acts 9:5 is a textual variation. You'll see the same thing happening in Rom. 8:1. I am given to understand that the text used in the NIV is superior to what was used in 1603-1611 by the translators of the KJV (which is sometimes referred to as the Textus Receptus ... anything sounds more scholarly when they give it a Latin name).

I have a couple of versions of the Bible on my PDA, but otherwise I don't have any Bible software.
